The Itinerary
The idea was to make my dad a website. Since I was doing it pro bono, I wanted to make it as quick as I could, yet still have it look elegant. I also wanted to set him up with a way that he could edit the content easily by himself.
The Journey
I thought I’d experiment with Textpattern, but since I was unfamiliar with it and didn’t want to deal with the learning curve, I decided to use the familiar and ubiquitous Wordpress. I browsed for a clean looking theme to begin with, again, I didn’t want to do too much work. I discovered Blue Zinfandel, rearranged it a little, slapped on a stock photo of the California State Capitol, cut and pasted the content from his brochure and I was done.
The Destination
I succeeded in making a quick and sharp web presence for my Dad’s business with the help of some sophisticated open source software. We’ll see now if he’s savvy enough to go in and edit it himself :)
