Blather

The Itinerary

Musical group Blather wanted a web presence that they could use to market themselves, share their music, post upcoming shows and provide news for loyal fans. The site was designed and developed by myself and two other team members as part of a school class on website usability and multimedia.

The Journey

After hearing the type of music they played and getting to know the band’s personality, we did a competitive analysis and looked at the website features of other bands of the same genre. We felt that pages with different colored backgrounds and different banners would add variety to the site and represent Blather’s multi-colored and eclectic music. Their logo and content boxes were designed to be curvy like the illusion one gets when thinking of the word “blather.” There would be a main content box on the right side of the page and space for callouts on the left. On pages where there were no callouts, the main content box was centered. We discussed whether or not to include a “store” section, but we decided against it because as of yet the band has not produced any official CD’s.

The Destination

The project was a success. The site is aesthetically pleasing and communicates the band’s musical style and personality. It earned us an ‘A’ in the class and was received with great enthusiasm by the band. Unfortunately, the band didn’t have the resources to maintain the site and is no longer together.
