Only in Wikipedia

I’m going to start blogging about encyclopedia entries that can only be found in Wikipedia (but don’t test me on that because they might be found elsewhere, but probably aren’t). One great thing about Wikipedia being “alive” is that it contains the most up-to-date information about popular culture as well as obscure references from the past. Here are a few random topics that I wanted to know more about and was pleased to find my answer in Wikipedia. To find out more about the topics, read the Wikipedia articles.

Wesley Willis was an unlikely musician from Chicago whose popularity spread underground mostly through college students using Napster. I remember hearing about when he passed away. Definitely a cult figure, I was curious to see what Wikipedia had to say about him.

The Hash House Harriers is a social drinking and running group with “kennels” in major cities across the globe. I had a friend who said he “hashed” and when he tried to explain its purpose and process I left with a vague notion of what this thing was that he did. Wikipedia answered more of my questions but I still think it’s one of those things that you have to do to understand.

Reggaeton is new form of music fusing Latin, reggae, and hip hop music. I heard that annoying “Gasolina” song all over the radio and in the clubs and found out it was a new form of music called reggaeton. Eventually I started to like the song. I knew I could find out more about it in Wikipedia.
