On the Facebook Bandwagon

06.16.2007

Sean Conaty's Facebook profileAlthough I do like creating custom profiles on Myspace, I have to admit that Facebook is a million times more sophisticated. The friend feeds are addictive and don’t require any extra effort on part of the user. You can see what your friends are doing without having to go to each of their pages and without them having to explicitly tell you. With myspace, you have to go from page to page to page making comments to keep content fresh.

Pictured left is my Facebook badge. It’s a good way to link to your profile and get people to go from your myspace page to your facebook page. Create your profile badge.

Real Snakes on a Plane

No it wasn’t some kid impostor like you would think it was, it was a real dude trying to smuggle 700 snakes from Egypt to Saudi Arabia.

I doubt the guy had even seen the movie.

Multilingual Swear List

04.23.2007

Back when Google released their code search, the first thing users did was search for the profanities of frustrated coders. Common queries included the common curses like “fuck” and “shit.”

I, however, was searching for more creativity and comprehensiveness. I searched for the most vulgar phrase in an attempt to find a list of banned words. I succeeded in my quest and found the Multilingual Swear List, a complete list of about any vaguely profane word in more than 100+ languages.

multilingualSwearList.txt, the file is called, can conveniently be used as foreign-language swearing dictionary. Did you know that ‘kwanii’ is Arabic for ‘faggot’?

What’s the vulgar phrase I searched for to find this repository of bad words? cuntface.

Angel Island

01.23.2007

I rode my bike around the Angel Island three times last Sunday. The last time I had been there was when I was a wee little boy scout.

I took some pictures of the vast scenery and the decomposing buildings. Above is Tiburon from the top of Mt. Livermore. Left is an old Budweiser can I found in one of the abandoned buildings. See all the photos.

I Got a Job at AdBrite

05.05.2006

I got a bona-fide full time job as web designer at the growing online advertising middleman: AdBrite. It looks like a really good company and I’m going to enjoy my time there and really get a chance to sharpen my skills. After answering phones, teaching summer camp and working contract, I finally landed a real dot-com job right as the market is starting to heat up.

When I went in to negotiate my salary, the head of HR said, “You know you got this because of your pizza, right?” referring to my pizza app, which is awesome because it means that all my work on that wasn’t for naught; it finally paid off.

The most bizarre thing about getting hired there is that it’s one floor above where I work now (which is a small, 6-story building). I had no idea of this when I sent them my resume but when they called me for an interview and I looked at their address on their website I couldn’t believe it. I thought for sure they had to be old tenants, but they weren’t.

At least now I know what my commute’s going to be like.

Hello world!
